Frankston-Baxter Electrification
An important part of the Peninsula Rail Link project is the extension of the suburban Frankston line to Baxter. This involves duplication of the single track section of the line, and electrification of the corridor so electric trains can run it.
Frankston
Frankston station and the surrounding area are currently being rebuilt to become more user-friendly. Further reconstruction is slated for electrification to Baxter, including the addition of a 3rd platform.
Frankston Hospital
Proposed by the federal Liberal government following the 2016 election, Frankston Hospital station would provide easier access to both Frankston Hospital and the surrounding smaller medical facilities.
Leawarra
Leawarra station will be the greatest beneficiary of electrification, and it alone warrants the project. This is because the station serves two highly-important locations: the Frankston Power Centre and Monash University's peninsula campus.
Langwarrin
Langwarrin station used to be part of the Stony Point and Mornington lines before their closure in 1981. This station would be reopened as part of the Frankston-Baxter electrification project.

Baxter
Baxter station will be completely transformed as part of the project, with a new island platform, a stabling yard and a maintenance facility.
Citybound peninsula trains would use platform 1, while platform 3 would be used by outbound trains. Platform 2 would be used by terminating suburban trains. Despite this, all three platforms will be electrified through platforms to allow for easier peak hour movements and emergency platform changes.
